Description: Mairéad throws a party. Status: Semi-public (by invitation), complete.
Mairéad was more one for suits of armor and big swords than bunting and evening gowns, but even she understood the place of such things in the natural order of Faerie.
More so, for an Emissary of her standing, the ritual observance of Misdummer was expected and demanded. Mairéad often wondered about that, and why Titania insisted that each territory invite the senior, influential members of the non-human communities in their regions for an evening of political warfare and verbal intrigue, if not physical confrontation. Nobody, no matter how important, would be stupid enough to start a fight in the demesne of Summer, even one at the fringes of Faerie such as Autumn.
Indeed, Mairéad suspected that the subtle reinforcement of that one truth was the essential reason behind their engagement in the first place. A gentle reminder that, although often overlooked by the short attention span of more mortal creatures, the fae were still a force to be reckoned with. Still, having to invite the accursed vampires stuck in her throat, as she knew it would for every Summer fae of reasonable age. The raw memory of the demon Lahashael's betrayal of their Queen, resulting in their creation, was still fresh to many, not helped by its recent massacre in these very halls.
Mairéad pushed those thoughts out of her mind. Tonight was not about vengeance, it was about word and shadow play, and Summer be damned if she wouldn't finish the evening without some kind of leverage over most of the attendees. She glanced over the burgeoning guest list one more time, noting the attendees and their permitted companions, and already working out the best ways to either introduce amicably or pluck the strings of adversity. She motioned to Niamh, one of her aides, and asked him to fetch Eredriel, before she turned to regard the hall.
Knotted columns of wood rose organically from between the shattered cobbles of the floor, themselves shot through with grass, flowers and plants of all descriptions. Garlands hung from the central dome, riotous in the colors of both summer and Summer, while around them, the artisan craftsmanship of the fae was in evidence on every wall, every carving, every mural, every tapestry and painting that lined the Court.
She nodded in satisfaction, and glanced down, waving a hand over her body as her simple, elegant gown became something altogether more elaborate. Deep red roses bloomed over her body, clinging to her curves and wrapping around her legs, trailing behind her as they pooled on the floor. A living dress of flowers, one that shed petals gently as she walked.
Suitably beautiful, suitably alluring. She smiled, waiting for her charge, as the first of the guests began to arrive.
