Smoke and mirrors
Date: 17 May 2013
Time: 4.38pm
Location: Walton's Bar, Docks
Characters: John Irvine, Ryane Kincade
Description: It's not what it looks like
Status: Private, complete.

John swirled the amber liquid around the glass, watching as the ice began to collapse inside it, radiating out slow-motion ripples of meltwater in lazy tides as it settled. The clink of the ice against the walls seemed half-musical for a moment, before he lifted it to his lips.

The liquid burned over his lips and past his tongue, searing its way past the back of his throat as it made its way down. He knew that he'd spent way too much time in this bar, lately, but home didn't hold much appeal to him any more. Inasmuch as he loved and had missed Eva, she'd demonstrated that people could find him there, and his study of the book needed no interruptions.

But, it wasn't without its challenges. He had a permanent migraine these days, and looking at the book's pages for too long was...challenging. Some of the margin scribbles had started to hurt his eyes, and coalesce into shapes that, for whatever reason, seemed obscene.

Truth be told, he'd almost tried to burn the book last night, before sense got the better of him. He needed to finish this, needed to stop feeling Lux when they were near, needed to get away from his poisonous Circle before it killed them all.

Until then, though, he had Johnny Walker.
