For the last twenty years Eleanor had resided in a secluded part of Rio de Janeiro. Mainly because it had the most beautiful night scenery she'd ever seen. If there was one thing she could appreciate it, it was beauty. And Eleanor could find the beauty in anything. It was a talent she'd acquired after her many centuries on this earth and one she only looked forward to tuning that much more. Rio was the perfect place to do so. But, alas, she couldn't enjoy the skyline before her for much longer. It was time to feed Amon. Her poor sire. She should probably put him down, but she just didn't have the heart. He was her only connection to her humanity now that Guillaume had left her. Thankfully, she had a donor this time. A suicide case she'd found on the street, yes, but Amon didn't care as long as it was good blood. From what she could tell, the victim hadn't been high on anything and he said he wasn't a user. Just a drinker. Amon liked drinkers best. This way she could serve both of their needs... even if it would be a bit messy. But it was what it was... and Amon was hungry. So showing the stranger (whom she'd just made sure was fed the best and most lavish feast of his sorry life) down the steps to the basement of her home, Eleanor knew things were about to get tricky. They always did once they saw Amon. Her poor love. Just as she knew it would, the strange man took one look at Amon, chained and raging, drooling and moving about like a frenzied animal, and turned to leave. But Eleanor already had the door locked behind them and she had the only key. This man who thought he'd had no hope before really had no hope now. He was done for. And he knew it. She could see it in his eyes. "I'm sorry." Those were the only two words of comfort she offered before she placed her hand on his chest and, with a gentle shove for a vampire, put the man at the foot of the steps and well within reach of her sire. Amon was on him in less than a second. Just like that the room had gone from only her sire's growling to the ravaged screams of a man being torn apart by claws and teeth. It didn't last long. Amon may be an animal, but he always went for the heart first. It was something that hadn't changed in him since the beginning. Something he'd taught Eleanor to do so long ago when her name was still Nephthys and he still had some hold on his sanity. Still, she stood on the next to last stair, watching as her maker fed. He was really a monster now. She should just end him, but she couldn't. No matter how much she knew it would be better, she couldn't put him down like a dog. He was so much more than that. Had been so much more than that once. It saddened her to see him reduced to... this. It was just one more reason she tried to hold on to her sanity and humanity as hard and as tightly as she could. The image he portrayed, she'd seen it now in so many. Part of her knew this was to keep the species in check. Part of her wanted to find a way to stop it. Eleanor knew Amon had so much knowledge other people didn't have. All vampires did. And when they devolved into this animal in front of her, all that knowledge was just... gone. It was a travesty. A waste. So much was lost. Not just the intelligence and the knowledge... the worst loss of all was the person. It seemed ages before Amon was finished with th stranger. But when he finally cast the body away, Eleanor unlocked the door and let a couple of her nest come down and take the body away while Amon hid in the shadows. He never liked people to see him. It seemed a subconscious thing now. And still, Eleanor stayed once they were gone. She made her way to her master, a dangerous act in and of itself, and squatted down in front of him. Cocking her head to the side slowly, she took him in as she always did. "O meu pobre avô materno. Não consigo entender por que razão todos devemos transformar em presente. Eu desejo que você poderia apenas me diga o que fazer. Você poderia pensar que como uma princesa e uma sacerdotisa EU deveria saber por agora." "Você é uma princesa. Mas você é muito mais do que isso. Você é rainha. A segunda-feita." Eleanor stumbled back, considerably less gracefully than she should have. Her sire had spoken to her. Genuine words... and a sentence that made sense. What had changed this time? What was different? She didn't know but whatever it was, it caused her sire a moment of clear lucidity that had him informing her that she was the second-made. In all her years she hadn't known that. She hadn't known why she was Queen. Just that she was. And now... now Amon was telling her why. Amon was telling her that he was the first vampire made. They all knew the vampire legend. That the demon Lahashael made the first. An experiment of sorts. And now... now here they were. She was the one made immediately after the first. Amon. Amon and Nephthys. In a way, they were the Adam and Eve of vampires. This was a lot to take in... and there was still so much she needed to know. But as Amon had slipped back into his animalistic state, there was no way to ask him. That meant there was only one person she could ask. Eleanor had to find Lahashael... and she had to find him immediately. "Hannah!" she called as she ascended the stairwell. "Obter o meu saco. Temos um demônio para encontrar." |
