The night held a chill that swept along the sands, a breeze gently displacing the loose ground underneath the feet of those that stood by the water. One of the individuals was illuminated by the glow of the moon, placed mightily in its position in the sky – his attention was focused solely on the sight, as if he were the only person in its presence. The serenity that temporarily surrounded all of them was due largely in part of what was to come next, what they were all there to do.
Binding the Founder’s Circle the way it should have been done in the beginning was an event that could spare no distractions or upsets. Everyone aside from himself had already attempted the Binding prior, though now he was taking the place of one who had been there from the start. One who had deserved to be in his spot now.
The thought was resting heavily on his mind – how had his life led him to the discoveries of recent light? He was here to fill the missing void left by his cousin, but he hardly identified her as such – a friend, yes, she had been since they were young. But cousins? Elliot hadn’t known about his Steele heritage until just before Lux and John had approached him. Was he even ready to take on a responsibility this large?
The man spared a glance from the moon, focusing on the soft features of the brunette nearby. Lux had been his closest friend growing up; she’d never made him feel out of place or like he hadn’t ever belonged. When she’d come to him about the truth and taking a place in the Circle, he’d known he couldn’t refuse her. The fact that John had been present had only solidified his acceptance of it all – the man wouldn’t have been able to escape him in he’d tried in their youth. He was fiercely loyal to the both of them, but then – it wasn’t just those two that he was committing.
Isabelle, Alvaro, Eva – they were a major part of it, too. They’d all been close as kids, even though he’d been more easily found at the side of John or Lux. That was soon to change, as the moon grew closer to being at its strongest.
There wasn’t much that would be the same after this, but he’d accepted that knowledge and knew he’d do his best to earn his spot.
