Fred looked up at Rupert, thinking she had never seen anything more wonderful than the sight of her husband holding their baby daughter. Reaching up, she rested her hand on him for a few moments before turning her attention back to Charlie.
"Christine?" she echoed. "Andrea Christine Giles. I like that."
Charlotte and Andrea Giles. Two perfectly little wonderful little girls. Fred knew she and Rupert were very, very lucky.
When the nurse came in to tell them that they were going to move her and Andi to a private room, Fred felt a bit of a pang at having to be separated from her family. But she knew that the sooner this was over with, the sooner Rupert and Charlie could come back, so she watched as they left while nurse began performing her check of the baby. Soon the another nurse came in with a wheelchair to move her to the new room, and once Fred was settled in it, she pushed her down the hall through a set of double doors.
"Marcia will bring in your daughter in a few minutes, then your husband and other daughter can come in. We want to get you settled and see if you can feed the baby," the nurse explained. "Have you ever breastfed before?"
Fred shook her head. "No."
"Well, then, we'll see how this goes."
The room she was taken to was huge, much to Fred's amazement. She didn't realize there were rooms like this. As she moved to the bed, she grimaced a little bit at the pain and soreness, but she knew she didn't want to take anything for it. Not if she was going to be feeding Andi.
"All right, pet, here we are," the other nurse said as she wheeled Andi into the room. "Shall we try feeding?"
After a couple of false starts, Andi was feeding from Fred's breast, much to her amazement. It felt a bit strange, but it was wonderful at the same time The nurse adjusted a blanket over them before Rupert and Charlie came in. Fred smiled up at them.
"I'm all right," she told her husband before looking down at Andi. She seemed to be done, so she shifted a bit and pulled her robe and closed. "A little sore, but nothing bad. I just...I just can't believe she's finally here. We have our family now, and it's just so wonderful."
As she said that, she laughed, suddenly remembering something. "Speaking of family, I guess we should call them and tell them the news. All of it."
