After Rupert hugged Charlie, Fred leaned down and did the same. "I think you just totally made his day," she whispered to her before straightening up and taking her hand. Together they walked out of the car, where Fred helped her in, making sure she was buckled in while Rupert got Andi secured.
Before long, they were heading to the solicitor's. When they arrived, they were ushered up to Jacqueline's office, where she was waiting with Holly, a representative of the agency that ran the orphanage where Charlie had been placed after her parents had died. Both the solicitor and the representative smiled as they walked in.
"Hello, Charlotte," Holly said. "I like your outfit."
"I picked it out with Mummy and Daddy's friends. I bought it because my daddy wears jackets like this."
"Well, it's very nice."
"Shall we get started?" Jacqueline asked. Once everyone was seated, Charlie on Fred's knee, she pulled out a document several pages long. "This document contains the official findings of St. Mary's Children's Agency, that Rupert and Winifred Giles have been found to be fit parents for Charlotte York. Miss Burke, are the findings are reported in this document indeed the findings of the agency?"
"Yes, they are," Holly said. Jacqueline then had her sign off on the document, which she filed in the folder. She then pulled out another document, this one only a page. "Then based on those findings, St. Mary's has authorized the adoption of Charlotte York by Rupert and Winifred Giles. This document officializes the adoption as well as Charlotte York's change of name to Charlotte Giles."
Jacqueline pushed the document to the front of her desk. "Rupert and Fred, if you'd sign this."
Once they had, Holly then signed the document as the representative of the agency. Jacqueline then signed it and stamped it.
"That's it. Under the law of England Wales, Rupert and Winifred Giles, you know the parents of Charlotte Giles. Congratulations." She held up the adoption document. "Once this had been filed with the registrar, we'll send you a copy."
Fred wrapped her arms around Charlie as she bounced on her knee and hugged her tightly. "You hear that? You're a Giles now."
