Book rec: Sharon Shinn's "Rider & Raelynx"
The fourth and (I think) final of Sharon Shinn's Twelve Houses series, Rider and Raelynx, is a good read although perhaps not as enjoyable as the first two in the series
, Mystic and Rider & The Thirteenth House, and not nearly as good as her incomparable Archangel/Samaria books.
It may be that the reason I didn't enjoy the last two books in this series quite as much, was simply because the central protagonists didn't appeal to me as much as those of the earlier books, rather than a diminishing of the quality of the writing. I suspect the writing is as well-crafted as that in any of Shinn's novels. I do like the main protagonists of the final two books, however Justin, (& in this book) Cammon aren't nearly as intriguing as the powerful, passionate, fiery & restrained Senneth , & the charismatic, appealing & irritating Kirra of the first & second books respectively.
Having said that though, I do like the way Shinn has split up in the POVs in the novels, so that in each novel there is a new POV from one of the mystics that initially formed a group in Mystic and Rider.
