It was a beautiful spring day. The weather weather was warm without being too hot. There was a nice breeze that ran through the trees, delighting the senses, and carrying with it the the scents of all the flowers in bloom. Briar decided to forgo going to her studio that day, instead, choosing to paint outside for a change of scenery and a change of pace. She had called Theo, whom she realized she hadn't seen in far too long, to join her and the two sat in the shade of a tree at a park overlooking the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk.
From where they were seated they had a good vantage point of the docks. Briar was set up with a small easel that she had brought with her, fixated on on one boat in particular, while it maneuvered out of the dock. Theo was playing his guitar.
"That's a very lovely tune," she remarked absently and swirled her soft bristled brush in a small glass of water, cleaning it before dabbing it into the blue-grey mixture of color she had created. Briar forwent the honorifics. She considered Theo more her equal than her superior, even though it would have been correct to refer to him as "Your Majesty."
"I packed a small lunch," she informed him, leaning into the painting as she applied the color to create shadows that had not been previously there. "Let me know whenever you feel hungry," she said, ever the hostess.
"I'm so glad you were able to join me today," she glanced over at him and gave him a brief smile. There may or may not have been something else on her mind that she wanted to share, other than the afternoon and her lunch, but all in due time, she supposed.
