Aoife felt as if she had been living and breathing Quidditch - except for when she'd been caring for the ridiculous egg. If she'd been a mean-spirited sort of girl she would have had quite the urge to hex Professor Gulch for giving them eggs directly before a Quidditch match, but as it was, she simply managed to be a little annoyed about the fact that she'd been partnered with someone who was so unavailable to help her. It wasn't even as if she'd been paired with a Gryffindor, she'd been paired with a Hufflepuff and she would have expected a bit more help. For right now, she nestled the egg down in a basket and it seemed to be quiet and thankfully so was the rest of the dormitory's eggs. It was always no good at all when one started to cry and the rest of them started to cry as well. Once it was safely tucked away she turned her attention to her daily exercise routine. Some sit-ups, some push-ups, and a few jumping jacks, all aimed to help keep her fit and strong so that she could catch the Quaffle adequately no matter what. This was something she was always terrified of - that she would be given the chance to play and then she would fail by dropping the Quaffle when it was tossed to her. And in fact, after the practise in the rain and the snow, she was even more afraid of that. Her mini-routine done, she stood up and pulled out her practise Quaffle. She tossed it at the wall, allowing it to bounce back at her and she caught it, and she continued that basic sort of drill for several moments, gasping as she nearly missed it and the Quaffle bounced rather dangerously close to her Egg. She couldn't imagine what Hector would say if she squashed their egg with a Quaffle, although she couldn't help but think that she'd just say that he should have spent more time with it during the week. After that she cast a slippery charm on the Quaffle and did the same. This made it quite a bit more interest to try to catch as it hit the wall much differently and when it came back to her, she tended to allow it to slip and slide out of her hands. After a second close call with the egg, Aoife glared at the small object and slid it just under the edge of the bed so that it was protected by the ledge. That done, she turned her attention back to the Quaffle again and toss after catch after toss after catch, she continued for a good thirty minutes, dropping almost as many passes as she tended to catch. But by the time she finished, sliding down by the end of the bed and reaching for the basket to check on the well being of her egg, she felt as if at least she'd had a bit more experience. Whether it would help her do better at the match... she wasn't certain. But that was assuming she'd play in the first place. She deslimed the Quaffle and put it away, glancing at her egg. She really should work on Transfiguration, she knew, but she was half tempted to just watch the Egg for a while... |
