Ma petite lune,
It is with great pleasure that I wish you a happy eighteenth birthday and debut into society. I was delighted to receive the package you sent me - merci beaucoup. I am very sorry that I could be there neither for your debutante celebration or your birthday. I will have to make it up to you.
Please accept these gifts regardless of my fondness for wordplay (or perhaps, nameplay). I hope that you enjoy them, and of course when the necklace reaches full I expect that you will remain inside.
Do not think that these are a replacement for the souvenirs from France; those are forthcoming.
Yours truly and always,
Her gift is a book, entitled La Lune et la Magie: Les sorciers françaises et leurs études de la lune and this necklace, which changes phases with the moon.
The following is written on the inside cover of the book.
Jacqueline,
A great man once said that silence is one of the great arts of conversation. You have always had the gift of knowing to speak only when words are necessary, and never to waste a breath. Surely these are the keys to success. As such I have provided you with a key, so that you know that as a lady of society there are no doors that will remain unopened to you. Just remember that not all doors are meant to be opened, even if you have the ability to unlock them.
Yours,
Her gift is a book, entitled ARCANA: The philosophies of Frankish sorcerers, as well as this necklace.
