DEPARTMENT OF MAGICAL LAW ENFORCEMENT Office of Bartemius Crouch, Head Laborare pugnare parati sumus
OFFICE MEMO
TO: Alastor Moody & Elladora Gruffy FROM: Bartemius Crouch Snr DATE: 4 August 1979 RE: this CC: Rufus Scrimgeour
URGENCY: HIGH CLEARANCE: Those two only
I have never in my career been more disappointed by certain individuals as I am now. For all the complaints that I have been receiving regarding how the notification of the families was handled, I am surprised that the two of you would even deign to go and speak to Mrs. Malfoy in such a manner.
Everything I read was disrespectful, and regardless of her opinion of the current political you are Aurors should know better than to speak to a member of society you have sworn to protect. The letter I received spoke about her concern over how the Aurors were handling themselves off duty, and I am beginning to worry about the state of things.
The comments from the both of her were just astounding, and not in a good way. To think that for the number of complains I have been receiving about how things were handled regarding the notifications of the families; the two of you go ahead and do this? This petty attack against a member of society who did nothing aside from expressing her opinion on the current state of thins. An opinion you would do well to remember that is not against the law, regardless of what your moral code states.
Everything I read was petty, completely unprovoked, and inappropriate for a member of the Department of Magical law Enforcement – regardless as to whether or not you were on duty – and frankly is something I see children doing when they are playing on the streets. Not something that people who have passed puberty and have left Hogwarts engaging in on a daily basis. I am beginning to feel like I am a Nanny in a den of unruly, horrible children rather than working with what I was under the assumption were decent Aurors who would not sink to the level of the Death Eaters.
In addition, you Auror Moody – to question Mrs. Malfoy about her current state of childlessness - I expected better of one of my Senior Aurors. Regardless of your personal feelings regarding Mrs. Malfoys opinions you should not questioned her about such things, nor made the comments regarding her current state of barrenness. We are not her Healers, we do not the reasons why Mrs. Malfoy does not have a child.
Auror Guffy – I do not care for why you chose to antagonize Mrs. Malfoy in a manner, but you will cease and desist effectively immediately. You constantly make jokes at times where it is completely inappropriate, you show no respect anytime regarding anything and I do not have room in this Department for flighty individuals who do not see a point in taking things seriously.
I am demanding that the both of you write Mrs. Malfoy a public apology over your journals - a sincere apology for the completely inappropriate way that you responded to Mrs. Malfoy. Furthermore, the two of you will be writing me a two-foot essay on the proper way to act in public befitting a member of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. If you continue to act like children, I am going to treat you as such.
