Report on Roman Selwyn's Death - Backdated to 6 May
DEPARTMENT OF MYSTERIES Quaere verum.
INTERDEPARTMENTAL MEMO
TO: Rufus Scrimgeour, Head Auror FROM: Adelaide Quinn, Unspeakable DATE: 6 May 1979 SUBJECT: REPORT ON ROMAN SELWYN cc: Adalbert Waffling, Department Head of the Department of Mysteries Augustus Rookwood, Deputy Head of the Department of Mysteries Gawain Robards, Deputy Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement
I have the honor to submit the following report investigating the circumstances of Roman Selwyn's death. I must, however, request more information in order to complete this investigation -- more specifically, the events leading up to his arrest and the conditions within his confinement.
Because of the holding of the body, we are unable to conclusively state the time of death, though evidence from the pooling of blood at his feet indicate it to be early morning. A specific time cannot be pinpointed, but the specific time of death is most likely between 2 to 5 am in the morning.
In summary, the following injuries were found (A full report of the analysis is attached):
Injuries most likely due to hanging
Bruises around the neck
Asphyxiation
Tongue has been pushed up and back into throat
Hemorrhages in the facial skin and eyes -- particularly in eyelids and behind the ears (post-mortem)
Internal injuries in the abdominal region caused by impact trauma
No defensive wounds
Cuts along arms and other body parts
Internal bleeding and organ damage
It is clear that Mr. Selwyn was in poor physical health at the time of death. His many wounds and organ damage indicate some sort of physical trauma directly before death. He was in dire and severe need of medical attention, something he did not receive during his internment in the Ministry.
Though the results may have been generally inconclusive, we have reason to suspect possible misconduct leading to such a state of his body. The condition of his body seemed to deteriorate during his internment in the Ministry, though this is, once again, a suspicion. The injuries in his abdominal region, especially, suggest some sort of physical abuse that would worsen the current physical state of his body. Such a state can only suggest intensive physical abuse, though we cannot deduce the cause.
Further information regarding this matter would greatly enable us to uncover the mysteries of this investigation.
Yours sincerely,
Adelaide Quinn Unspeakable of the Department of Mysteries
