[On plain parchment, in her own hand, and warded for Alice's eyes only:]
Dear Mrs Longbottom,
I have had enough of back channels, of beating about the bush, and of catastrophic miscommunication. I have had enough of doing things your way.
I know who you are. I know what you are. If I wished you ill, this letter would be worded rather differently, and addressed to Rufus Scrimgeour. It's not.
I don't wish you ill. I trust you'll communicate this to the rest of your associates. Despite your assault upon my assistant, a Ministry employee, I would prefer to work with you. I most assuredly do not want to have to distract from what should be our primary focus to deal with your group. But as I told Aberforth, I cannot allow the extra-legal activities of an organisation for whom I have no trust and with whom I have no communication. While those conditions persist, you remain a danger to any plans we pursue, and therefore to the very safety of the people I must protect, both the Ministry and the wider population.
Let me be entirely clear. I neither want nor need to dictate your movements or know everything about your organisation. But there must be communication between us. This is your final chance. I will not make another overture if this one is refused. Any hostile approach to myself, my assistants or anyone related to us will be considered a refusal. If I have not heard from you by next Sunday, I will assume you have refused.
I wish it hadn't come to this, Alice, but I have been left with no choice. I hope to hear from you.
Sincerely,
