Rita: Thank you Tom, for that fascinating report on the illegal kitten cage matches happening around our country. Some of those felines certainly are (one second pause) catty. News from the Wizengamot has arrived announcing that tomorrow, a bill will be proposed to set standards in Orphanages throughout the Wizarding World. Here to discuss the Wizarding Orphanage Commitment of Care and Competence Bill is undersecretary of the Department of Regulation of Magical Beings and Creatures, and a proposer of the bill, Marius Lestrange. Mr. Lestrange, thank you so much for joining us this evening. Can you tell us a little bit about this bill being proposed? Marius: Thank you, Miss Skeeter. The Wizarding Orphanage Commitment of Care and Competence is designed to lay out new regulations which all homes that house magical orphans must follow. In the past orphans were often forced to live in situations that put them three to a bed, with meager food, little guidance, and patched rags for clothing. This is unacceptable. The Ministry was sending money to these orphanages but the caretakers spent nothing on the children while living lavishly in their own homes. With the new guidelines in place the caretakers of orphanages will be closely monitored and will be paid directly from the Ministry so that all money earmarked for the care of orphans will go for its intended purpose. Rita: How shocking that there are such corrupt people in this country. To think that some would stoop so low as to take money from orphaned children to better their own lives. I, for one, am appalled that something as horrible as this can be going on in our good country. Thank Merlin there are people like you to put an end to this. How did you find out such travesties were occurring? Marius: It was first brought to my attention by Mrs. Lucinda Greengrass, who has been spearheading much of this effort. Her heart and compassion for the cause of children is commendable. Being a mother herself, I believe, has contributed to her desire to see to it that all children in wizarding Britain are cared for. Rita: How incredibly admirable for the two of you to be the voice for those who have none. I imagine those corrupt so-called caretakers will be at the very least fired, if not further punished, will the ministry simply replace them or will the children be relocated to safer havens? Marius: New accommodations and new and additional staff are currently being interviewed and hired. The new homes are well furnished and maintained and will provide the feel of a real home as each child is nurtured until such a time that they can be welcomed into a home by a suitably screened wizarding family. The Women's Group has played a large role in determining what sort of staffing needs would be needed and now a nurse, tutors, and nannies will be part of the care team as well as full time caretakers. Rita: Well this certainly is an ambitious and admirable cause. We at the Wizarding Wireless Network Nightly News wish you the best of luck tomorrow in front of the Wizengamot, Mr. Lestrange; thank you for joining us. For the Wizarding Wireless Network’s Nightly News, I am Rita Skeeter. Have a pleasant and safe night, Great Britain. |
