"England unite," Foundation encourages the nation
by Florence Hall
On the heels of news that the new Ministry plans to close borders (see main article, page 1) comes a voice of confidence from Narcissa Malfoy's Foundation for the Promotion of Wizarding Society and Culture. The charity, which has been behind many notable efforts for the good of the people - including a Christmas toy drive for underprivileged children and an inexpensive Dragonpox vaccine - has taken a stand once again to reassure the public.
"We have seen the great threat foreign terrorism represents with the harm done to the Lestrange Library, one of the country's greatest pillars of heritage," said Mrs Malfoy herself. "This campaign will draw light to this problem and help our society look inward, where our attentions ought to be focused."
A campaign to strengthen community spirit is certainly well-timed - after the shock of the failed coup that brought in the New Year, the atmosphere has only improved, and it seems that it still has nowhere to go but up. With so much good being done, it's only natural that one might feel proud of being British! There are more practical benefits to this new push towards patriotism though - buying British-made products boosts the economy, providing employment to citizens and potentially reducing costs as paying import tariffs becomes a thing of the past. Even simple things such as forming neighbourhood watch groups and local childhood education groups will create safer, more friendly places to live and raise your children.
Certainly the least you can do is stop in at your local Foundation centre for a cup of tea and a chat - after all, as one representative said with a smile, "the Foundation is homegrown in England!"
