MINISTRY OPENS NEGOTIATIONS WITH DARK CREATURES NEW REHABILITATION PROGRAM TO CURB 'DARK ARMY' THREAT Jeremiah Smith LONDON - In the wake of last month's failed coup, the Wizengamot promised that the Ministry of Magic would use its new emergency powers to ensure the safety of the wizarding public. Among the proposed measures was a commitment to addressing the recent rash of attacks by dark creatures - a commitment the Ministry is now following through with a plan already being put into action. With the recent and lauded re-structuring of the Ministry to include a new Department of Public Health and Safety, a program has been founded in conjunction with the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures specifically to help rogue dark creatures and entice them to renounce their criminal ways. Special centres will be established for the rehabilitation of such anti-social behaviour and re-integration of these individuals into society as productive and law-abiding citizens. Werewolves and vampires who volunteer for the program will also be required to complete community service, both as a way to give back to society and learn proper values. No specific details were given by the Ministry as to what exactly the service will entail at this point in time. Of further interest is that Fenrir Greyback, the notorious werewolf who has been in the custody of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement since last November and is currently still serving his life sentence in Azkaban, has reportedly been of great help in the on-going negotiations with rogue werewolves and vampires to participate in the program. Greyback, who is also the head of a 'Dark Army' of such creatures that has worked with the terrorists in the past, holds a great deal of influence among his kind. The Ministry believes that his co-operation will play a key role in achieving and maintaining the safety of the country's wizarding community. 'It is unfortunate that the Ministry's previous policies regarding werewolves and vampires seem to have lead many of their kind, especially those of Muggle descent, astray,' said Emily Latimer, a Being Division official among those leading the program. 'They have been mislead by promises for greater freedom by the terrorists, who in turn exploited their misguided frustration for their selfish and destructive purposes. We are now actively seeking to counter that set of issues.' Lest anyone think the department is being too soft-hearted, Gavin Moore, a former Werewolf Support Service staff member now working at one of the new centres, had more to say about the program. 'We are not insinuating that these individuals are guiltless in their actions,' he told the Daily Prophet during an interview yesterday. 'They have undoubtedly committed atrocities and they must and will take responsibility for the harm they have done. We are therefore extending a hand to werewolves and vampires who are willing to atone for their crimes.' Representatives from the department further stated that while those who come forward will be welcomed into the centres, dark creatures who spurn this generous opportunity and continue to undermine the Ministry and threaten public order will be swiftly and harshly eradicated in due time.
