Aloysius stared down at the piece of parchment in front of him. It was covered with equations and scrawled notes, just like the many other pieces of parchment spread out all over his desk. His quill was hovering over the parchment, a drop of ink hanging from the tip and threatening to fall at any moment, until he saw that and quickly moved it away from his precious calculations.
He’d done it.
Well, he was sure he’d done it. It looked like he’d done it. Of course, only time would tell. Time and a great deal of experimentation.
A gleeful smile broke out on his face and he quickly scrambled all of his parchment together then had to stop and reorganise it into a proper order. Once he’d done that he picked it all up and practically hugged it to his chest as he hurried out of the Time Room. He headed straight for Rookwood’s office and burst in, smiling broadly, his eyes alight.
"Ah! Good! You’re here," he said excitedly. "I’ve done it! I really think I’ve done it. It’s taken me ages but I think I’ve got the calculations correct." He laughed. "The arithmancy was the sticking point, of course. It always is. But I’ve worked it out." He frowned a little. "At least I think I have." He brightened again. "Anyway... that’s what the experimentation is for."
He looked at Rookwood expectantly; it hadn’t even occurred to him that the other man might not know what he was talking about.
