"Let's burn his house down." It was a simple enough plan, but it's one the Order has been successful with several times -- and why fix what isn't broken? Remus felt absolutely restless in the safehouse, and besides; Marlene would've liked it if they burned down Severus Snape's house. It's something they should have done when she was still alive, and now they would be doing it in her memory. "We know where his house is. Let's go right now." No more waiting, no planning, no lists or debates about morals and ethics or discussions on how to make sure the innocent people remain safe from the attack -- they'd selected a target and now they were going to act. If the rest of the Order got angry at them for it, well... Remus couldn't have cared less. He'd let them yell and scold him and talk about how dangerous and reckless their actions were, and then he would do it again, and again, and again. The longer they sat around the safehouse hiding, the more chances the Death Eaters had to find them first. He wasn't going to wait around for that to happen anymore. Not again. Sirius had to admit, when it came to plans, it wasn't a bad one. Arson was one of the easier things to do and it had a poetic feel, considering he'd been picking on Marlene and she's - she was - a firebug. "That's what I like about you, once you make a decision, you don't mess around." With that, Sirius pushed himself up on to his feet. There really wasn't any point in waiting around. If they did that, Remus might forget his balls and lose his nerve. "Any preferences on the how, besides big whopping flames?" There were a few different ways you could do it, with magic or without. Not to mention the running like hell afterwards. They should take the bike, it'd make things a lot easier. Oh, wait... Remus doesn't like the bike, does he? Well, maybe he could put up with it considering it was his idea. Well -- they could apparate to the location, but that would risk setting off security wards around the house. It was best if they could avoid that for as long as possible. They didn't have immediate access to any broomsticks, did they? But -- "Let's take your bike. We can do a flyover, we won't even need to get that close to the building to throw spells," Remus suggested. "You wanna fly? Who are you and where's Remus?" Sirius was about to tumble out something about mind control but there was suddenly a sickening lurch at the thought. He suppressed it; he was going to get to do something fantastic tonight. Piss off Snape, give Marlene a quick nod wherever she was, ride the bike (with Remus, without him losing his lunch) and send a nice message: we are not backing down and fuck knows, they would not back down. "What about the other buildings?" That could be a problem. If by some miracle they managed to kill Snape, no harm and no foul but if they killed someone else, that could be a bit uncomfortable to try to explain. "Well -- we'll just have to be careful with our aim." With more time, they may have been able to take down wards and set up new ones to protect the other homes, but this was an in and out mission. Remus didn't plan on sticking around any longer than they needed to. "We can keep a watch on for a little bit. When it starts to spread too much, we'll... we can call the muggle fire department. Oh, hell -- we can help the damn fire department. If any of the muggles see your bike or us using magic, we'll just give the Death Eater's Ministry the runaround by breaking the Statute of Secrecy. Leave them a mess to clean up after." This was not a side of Remus he saw very often but Sirius had to admit, he did like it. Think first, ask questions later. It had gotten them pretty far at school, hadn't it? Sure, it had led to some reckless behaviour but every great person in history had a reckless streak; it was just part of the heroics, right? "Exposing magic and creating a fire," Sirius noted, grabbed his wand and shoving it in his jacket pocket. "One anarchic display, coming up!" He thought for a moment about leaving a note or something, but what the hell? Lets just get this show on the road! "Bikes down the road, didn't want to leave it too close. Let's just leg it down there." "Right then." With a nod, Remus stood up, making sure he had his wand on him before he led the way outside the safehouse. It was easy enough to sneak outside unnoticed -- somehow, he felt as if he'd done it many times before, even though he knew he hadn't. Perhaps it was just all the experience he gained from sneaking around at Hogwarts that made it so familiar and easy. Once they were outside, however, he allowed Sirius to lead the way down the road to where he'd left his bike. Although it had been his idea, Remus still eyed the monstrosity with apprehension. He liked broomsticks much better, if he had to fly at all, but this was their only other option at the moment he could think of. Getting out wasn't all that difficult but damned if it wasn't worth it when Sirius felt the air and the rush of suddenly breaking into the run down the road. It was nostalgic, sure, but even better than that, it was reminding him of the relationship he had with James. Maybe, in his own way, he was using Remus for that but it was his idea so if it was a multi-useful idea that made them both feel better, it didn't matter what the reasoning was nor the feelings behind it. He took the charm off the bike and gave it a quick stroke around the handles and backseat before getting her purring. He wondered idly if Remus was going to bolt back, but nope, he was still there. Good-o! Best to get a move on, then. He pushed his leg over and patted the seat behind him, "Come on, then! All we needs our wands, right?" "Just our wands," Remus confirmed, and then he slid onto the bike's seat behind Sirius. He held on tightly to Sirius' waist trusted that he knew where he was going, because he was going to be far too busy concentrating on not falling off to pay attention to anything else. Sirius kick started it with a growl (from the bike, not him or Remus for once) and it took off down the road, the disillusionment taking it's place as soon as the bike was in the sky. He knew his way up to Spinners End, he'd been up that way enough times with James and now they just needed to find the right place. Not always easy when you were in the air. "You keep an eye out for it!" He yelled back, "I'll circle round once I get up there, we'll go past then hit it coming back - sound good?!" He thought about muffling the sound but considering they were up there in the cold and slightly moist air, he supposed it didn't matter. He didn't think they'd run into any aeroplanes and even if they did, he didn't think they could talk. "Okay!" Remus tried to shout above the roar of the engine and the wind, but he wasn't sure that Sirius heard him. No, he was sure that no matter how many times Sirius might drag him onto the bike, he would never get used to it. Nor would he ever enjoy it. He looked down at the houses below as they flew over them, and he remained silent during the rest of the journey to Spinner's End. He squinted his eyes as they began to pass over the houses, looking for their target, and then, "-- THERE! It's right there, the one at the end!" The houses were so close together that it was going to be unavoidable not to hit them too; they would just have to put it out with water when it began to spread over. He drew out his wand, prepared to fire spells once Sirius circled the bike around. "I see it!" Sirius yelled, going for his wand and whispering to Shadow to be steady, as steady as she could be anyway. He looked over at the houses and made a plan amendment as they went past, trying to factor it all in. "See the cars over there? Hit the house and then hit them! They'll blow and it'll wake people up, so we don't need to stick around wondering if we've got friend muggles!" He was pretty sure that would work, but they'd stay around to make sure they got their backsides out of bed for a few minutes anyway. He turned the bike around mid air and laughed when his stomach almost hit the ground below, "Okay, we're going in!" Remus didn't find this quite as amusing as Sirius did -- to him, it wasn't a joke or a game, it wasn't for fun; it wasn't like their pranks in school. It was a mission for the Order (even if they didn't know about it). They were dealing with a Death Eater they should have dealt with a long time ago. He kept one arm tight around Sirius' waist while his other hand held firmly onto his wand, watching the house they were aiming for as Sirius circled around again. As they approached, Remus pointed his wand at the windows: "Confringo! Incendio!" The blasting curse shattered the windows, allowing the flames that followed behind them to spread out across the inside of the house. Navigating while casting wasn't exactly an easy feat, so he stuck with the simple "Incendio!" aimed firmly at the door and hopefully, with enough power and meaning to blow it right off. Ha! Let's face it, he'd been waiting to do that for a long, long time in some way or another so it was amazingly satisfying to watch the flames engulf the house. He swooped the bike past again, this time looking for something else to blow the hell up to waken everyone. "One more hit then we're out!" He yelled backwards. For all the noise they were creating, it didn't take long for muggles to begin peering out of their windows and doors at the destruction being caused. It was difficult to see the bike with the disillusionment charm activated on it, but spells of fire were hard to miss. Some of them rushed to call 999 while others tried to keep safe in their homes, and Remus turned his wand away from the house to one of the cars instead. "Confringo!" The spell exploded against the front of the car, smoke rising from the engine -- and then with another quick flick of his wand he sent the car flipping over backwards to land on the one parked behind it. Sirius just about heard the curse over sound of his own giddy giggles. He'd needed this! The place was spitting flames and people were starting to congregate, but he couldn't help but want to do one last little flourish. It didn't really matter if they got caught at this point. It wasn't as if they were murdering anyone, just letting a little flame loose. Not to mention placing a little blame. Drawing the flame around was messy, but effective - a makeshift bird in the sky. All it needed was some wings and hopefully, Remus would catch on and sort that out as he went past. Remus caught on to the idea quickly when he noticed the form taking shape as Sirius drew the fiery marks in the air. He turned his wand away from the ground and pointed it upwards into the sky, adding large burning wings to the body, spread wide as if in flight. Severus Snape had been working on potions ever since he had finished duelling practise with Gaius. His final exam would be the first week of August, and he was beginning to feel the pressure of that particularly with everything else that had happened at work, at home, and his personal worries (namely Lily at this point in time). He poured boomslang skin into the potion, and stopped as he realised something was wrong. An instant later he realised that the something, were the wards around Spinner's End being triggered. Dropping the boomslang skin and leaving the potion, he scribbled a note in his journal to tell Agatha that he was going out and if anything out of the ordinary happened, she should floo or Apparate to her parents house immediately. He Apparated to the field just on the other side of the buildings, and the could see smoke. Statue of secrecy forgotten, he drew his wand, running through the narrow coridors and alleyways towards the smoke. He'd known, it was his house, but seeing it made the entire thing more real. "Aguamenti", he shouted at a fiery bird that came flying towards him, hardly having time to think who the hell used a fiery bird to burn down someone's house. "Oh, here comes the man himself!" Sirius called back, swinging his bike around one final time to send the fiery bird flying into the sky. It was like fireworks, only better. He reached back and have Remus a good hard slap to the bottom of his back. "Let's be off, mate! Leave him with it!" There was no point in sticking around to get caught. Damage was done and he'd seen it. Time to leave. "Guess he wasn't inside, then," Remus replied, disappointed, and he pointed his wand at the jet of water Severus was aiming at the firebird. He cast a freezing charm followed by a blasting curse, water turning into ice before shattering into pieces and falling to the ground below. "Right, let's go --" but as he looked down at Severus, a feeling of malicious hatred washed over him, and as he held on tighter to Sirius so he wouldn't fall as they began to fly off, he aimed one last spell at the man standing on the ground: "Incendio!" "Protego!" The shield charm was a reflex response to the spells being fired around him and he followed it with a Sectumsempra, shot into the general direction of the spells. He was aware of some people coming outside, even as others stayed inside, and he realised his hands were tied in terms of what he could do. He couldn't shoot water out of his wand at the house - not that it was likely to do much good anyway - and too much magic was going to be noticeable now that the fire had started. He wanted to shoot more curses, but he was afraid it would be too noticeable. Turning his attention away from the source of the spells, he ran back towards the house he'd grown up in which was quickly becoming engulfed in flames. It was so much so that Severus wondered if the entire row would go up in flames, and part of him hoped it would so the Order could deal with some Muggle destruction on their conscience considering they didn't care about Purists at all. It would serve them right if a Muggle or two died in the process. "Did you just--" Sirius didn't even have time to finish the thought, let alone the words as a curse headed their way. Angrily, he dodged it. He wouldn't have minded if it had hurt. Certainly, there was a enough grease down there to make him go down in splendid fashion but they were on a tight schedule. Making a face, Sirius really put his foot down and the bike took off at tremendous speed, leaving Snape to deal with the mess. The spells seemed to have stopped and even had they not, Severus would probably have still attempted entry, but the upstairs was engulfed in flame, and the downstairs was smoky and hot. The door was hot to the touch and Severus couldn't simply stand back and blast it open with Muggle eyes on him as it were. "Stay back!" A white haired woman was yelling from her door. "I done called 999 already, haven't I then? You'll get yourself killed!" Severus swallowed, his face hot and sweaty, and knew that she was right. He stumbled back from the doorway, just in time for the fire to hit something explosive inside, and blow out the front window. It threw Severus across the street with the force and he landed against a parked car on the other side, pulling himself to his feet and waving away the offer of assistance. There wouldn't be anything left, and the best the fire department would do would be to keep the entire row from going up in flames. The fact that Black & Lupin (for he was certain it was his least favourite Gryffindors behind this) had used magic in a Muggle neighbourhood meant that the DMLE would be here soon enough as well and Severus really didn't want to be there when they arrived. |
