Severus said good evening to the mindless drones in the Minister's office and made his way out of the office. He'd received a note that MacFarlan was proving somewhat difficult as a potential member of the group that the Minister had formed and Severus did not wish to see this be a difficult situation. MacFarlan's brother worked in the Ministry as well, and the family name was well known by the population. This, along with his blood status, made him an ideal candidate and although Severus would have preferred that it be the man's choice, he was not opposed to convincing him that it was in his best interest to be involved, by legal or less legal means. Snape entered the lift, not much more than acknowledging the others that climbed in one after another as it lifted them up towards the Atrium. To acknolwedge them would have required the small talk that Severus despised. He stepped off of the lift on the floor dealing with transportation and made his way through the rows of desks towards where he knew MacFarlan's office was. It was towards the end of the day and he only hoped that he had left the Minister's office early enough. He typically stayed later, ending up with very few people on the lift when he left the building, but in this case he had a mission and knew that Nott would not be too bothered as he was on Ministerial business in a way of speaking. He raised his hand and knocked quickly on the door. MacFarlan had his head down over a stack of papers, trying to figure out precisely what was going on at the closed Apparition point near Dover when the knock interrupted him. He looked up ready to light into the assistant that he thought it would be. MacFarlan's day had been less than pleasant, bothered by people wanting him to be involved in groups that would take time from his schedule and additionally he had no real interest in. When he saw Severus Snape, the Minister of Magic's Undersecretary rather than his own assistant, he stopped, placing what he hoped was a less nasty expression on his face. "Evening, Mr Snape," he stood, uncertain if it was required when it was merely the undersecretary and not the Minister himself. "Can I help you?" The Minister's undersecretary wasn't someone who usually made office calls. "Evening," Severus responded, briefly, but with a pleasant enough undertone. "Just wished a small bit of conversation, if you have a moment?" He didn't wait for an answer, entering the room and closing the door behind him in what would have been less ominous perhaps, if he had not also pulled his wand from his robes in the same movement. "Perhaps you can pour us a drink?" MacFarlan had not noticed the wand, his attention focused on the door itself. "Er, yes, I have tea, here." He reached for his own wand, turning slightly to summon the cups and the proper drink while wondering what in the bloody hell the undersecretary could have to do with him. He couldn't imagine that the Minister knew about the apparition point problems, or would be interested in the details of them so long as MacFarlan sorted through it with the DMLE within the next day or two. He frowned slightly, his focus on the drinks in front of him. The tea had provided precisely the distraction Severus had required. His wand fully out from his robes, he pointed it at McFarlan's shoulder, casting Imperio quietly, but not silently. The man faltered, and Severus focused the energies more carefully to ensure that there would be no protests when he gave McFarlan the instructions. "You'll want to be involved with the Concerned Citizens for Truth," Severus said softly. "It's an excellent opportunity to convince the community of how the Ministry and the Foundation and St Mungo's have their best interests at heart. You will work with those who have complaints and provide the names of the most vocal and dissident of the lot to me personally so that we may deal with them in an appropriate way." MacFarlan glanced at the tea in his hand uncertain what he was doing with it. The memories from earlier in the day conversing with the young woman were floating back into his mind and he realised that he should not have been so quick to dismiss her. It was a wonderful opportunity to help increase the faith people had in the Ministry and after all, they were all doing what they could to make the Wizarding World a better place, weren't they? "I'm sorry, sir? Did you want sugar?" He turned around to Snape looking perplexed. Severus shook his head, his wand already tucked back within his robes. "No, I really should not keep you," he added. "I'm certain you have places to be and individuals you need to speak with besides me." "Yes," MacFarlan nodded, a rather ridiculous smile on his face. "I do actually, lovely young woman from earlier - need to talk to her if I can." Snape nodded with a pleased expression crossing his face. This was not the first time he had cast Imperius and he was certain from the feeling and reaction of the man, that they would not have much difficulty with him on this group. If anything he might be an excellent way to direct the group without appearing to have done so. "You do that," he said softly. "And do stop by the Minister's office to see me from time to time, MacFarlan. We've had a lovely chat." The direction given, ensuring that Severus would have future contact with the man without it being readily apparent to those in the transportation office, he stood, smoothed out his robes, and moved towards the door. One more project done and the Minister would be pleased -- he hoped. |
