The rays of light streaming into Mary's room cast long shadows on the floor. One particular ray, though, was hitting Mary's face, causing her flesh to feel usually hot, while the rest of her was rather cold. Her nose wrinkled. Several days ago, the Death Eater's raid of Diagon Alley landed Mary in the hospital in the first place. She had been unconscious since before she arrived to St. Mungo's, and her little nose twitch was the first movement she made in nearly forty-eight hours.
Nevertheless, following Mary's nose twitch, her fingers twitched as well. And over the course of about five minutes, life slowly returned to the young former Hufflepuff's body. Her eyes fluttered open last, and after a series of blinks, Mary's eyes squinted at the light. At first, the only thing Mary managed to make out was nothing but light. Was she dead? Her bedroom in her flat was never this sunny in the morning.. mainly because the sun was not fully up yet when she woke to go to work. This was different though. Mary felt disoriented and sore. Her eyes blinked again against the rays of light, and then scanned the room.
Mary knew this room. It was very familiar to her, but this was not her room. Lazily, she stretched a little to find that moving around was oddly painful. She stopped attempting to move. Instead, Mary's energy went to trying to recognise the room. It was familiar, but not something she could identify right away. Then it came to her. This was a St. Mungo's patient room. Mary was terribly confused. She could not recall ever leaving the hospital, so maybe she slept there? But then she noticed the beeping monitors she was hooked up to. The beeps were coming with her heartbeat. She was a patient here. Her brow furrowed in confusion.
The sense of urgency for Mary to find out what in Merlin's name was going on had never been stronger. As more life and thoughts came to her, the beeping of the heart machine increased. It was so very light, Mary could hardly see. The room itself was empty, she deduced, but the door was left open. It was not procedure to leave doors open like that, was it? Mary couldn't remember. Thinking too hard made her head spin. She tried to sit up, but that only hurt too. She groaned. What was going on? How did she end up here? And more importantly, when did she get here? All of the five W's were on Mary's mind, but no one was around to debrief her.. or so she thought.
