Just being around Narcissa was enough to make Alecto sit up a little straighter in her chair and put both feet on the floor at least. The gentle (and former) Miss Black was one of the few people in the world who'd ever made any progress in reeling in Alecto's tomboyish habits, and Al still rather wanted her former roommate to be pleased with her deportment.
Leaning forward to pick up her own glass - she could get used to this cognac stuff - Alecto replied, "Oh, getting by." She certainly wasn't going to whine at Narcissa about the recent antics of her cousin. "I've been doing reasonably well." There, that sounded like proper parlour conversation, didn't it? Except she probably should have used a better word than reasonably. Whatever. "And you, Narcissa?"
