After Tabitha made sure that Alastor was going to be watched while she was gone, ordering a few of the werewolves to make sure that he didn't try to follow her or leave the camp, she set out to meet Marius. She wasn't about to let him risk getting himself seen by their newest recruit, not until she was positive beyond a shadow of a doubt he was on their side -- the Death Eater's side. In the mean time, Tabitha would just have to be careful who came to the camp; so long as Alastor was being watched, she didn't expect keeping him under control to be too much of an issue. She walked away from the tents, into the thick of the woods until she came upon a small clearing where she said she would be waiting for Marius. Marius approached the clearing with his wand raised, though when he saw Tabitha waiting for him he lowered it. "Bonjour," he greeted her pleasantly, separating the distance between them to kiss her lightly on both cheeks, a greeting he reserved for only a few people he felt worthy of his company. Tabitha didn't seem to mind her life in the woods, but Marius minded it for her on her behalf. "Tell me," he said. "What is the name of your new wizard?" he asked, using his wand to cushion the ground around him so that he could sit, and casting warming spells around them to protect against the cold. "Not Lupin I hope," he said, wrinkling his nose distastefully at the name. He was not as prejudice as most pureblooded wizards against Werewolves, but the ones he disliked, he disliked greatly. Tabitha wasn't used to greetings like that, but she didn't mind it. In return, she gave Marius a brief hug around the neck before stepping back, settling down on the ground. She was used to the way dirt and dead leaves felt, and was comfortable here even without a cushioning charm, but she did appreciate the extra warmth. "No, not Lupin," she replied, with a similar tone of distaste. "That whelp is so trained and collared by your government he probably doesn't know what it's like to live as a free werewolf. No, we've got Alastor Gumboil. He used to work for your law enforcement until I turned him," she said, not bothering to hide the hint of pride in her voice. She made him. He belonged to her. "Fenrir wanted him for the pack, so I let him in after taking his wand." "If he worked for the DMLE there is a chance he can do wandless magic," Marius warned. "But the name is not familiar to me so it is unlikely he is close friends with the worst of them. Not a one of that bunch has any ability to keep their mouths shut," he said. "Which I should not complain about considering it makes them easy pickings," he added. He pulled his bag around to sit next to him and began pulling things out. "Astra shopped all day, and since the people I have to buy things for are few, I brought you back more than you were likely expecting," he said with a hint of apology in his voice. It was true, Marius had few friends in England, and so for the ones that he did have, he'd bought a great deal. There was wine, and Moroccan snacks of all sorts of exotic varieties, and various bits of colourful jewelry. He piled those all together, back in a thick leather bag that he pushed toward her. "Astra picked out most of it, so I would guess that it should be to any woman's liking," he said. "Though there are the three things I picked out for you as a thank you," he said. He handed her a dark green cloak, made of a heavy wool. "I had it charmed," he explained. "It will not catch fire, so if you pull it tightly around yourself any fire spells will simply absorb," he said. "All except fiendfyre, and no one in their right mind would cast that in battle. They would end up killing anyone in the vicinity." And it was true, Tabitha did like all the gifts that Marius had brought here for her. His wife certainly had good taste, from what she could tell; Tabitha wasn't very knowledgeable about brand names or what wines were better than others, if at all -- especially if they were made by wizards. It had been too early in her career as a tennis player to really live any kind of luxurious life, and werewolves did not often get to indulge in such things, either. Everything that he had brought for her was more than she's had in a very long time. But what she was most excited about was the cloak that was charmed to protect her from fire. When Marius handed her the cloak, Tabitha jumped up to her feet, pulling the green fabric around her shoulders. The colour was striking against the fiery red of her hair, and aside from the protective charms on it, the cloak was warm and soft. "This is bloody fantastic," she said, admiring the cloak for a moment longer before she sat down again, keeping it wrapped around her. "I can't wait to see the looks on their faces when they try fire magic on me again," Tabitha grinned. "I am glad you like it," Marius said. "And it looks quite nice on you," he added. "The colour goes nicely with your hair. And it looks like it ought to blend you well into the forest, too," he added, looking around. "I must admit, I have never been particularly keen on the English outdoors. In France we were always at the beach and that was much more to my liking," he said. He pulled a green lantern from his bag next. "This is what I needed to show you to explain," he said. "It heats the area better than any muggle lamp could," he said. "But there's a way to get it to heat without having the light on but I would never have been able to explain in a letter because I do not understand these symbols," he said. "Only how they work." He pointed out to her how she would need to arrange the little wooden togs attached to the bottom in order to turn on or off the light, as well as on or off the heating charm. It wasn't extraordinarily complicated but complex enough that if you didn't know how to use it you weren't likely to figure it out. "I haven't been to a beach in ages," Tabitha admitted. "I feel more at home here, anyway. I feel like I've lived out in the woods for longer than I've stayed in any house." Of course, when you were a werewolf who couldn't even use magic, there wasn't very many places to go; especially when most sane wizards would get the law enforcement out there to arrest her for her status as a murderer. It was obnoxious, really. She eyed the lantern curiously when Marius took it out of his bag, and she leaned in closer as Marius began to explain and show her how it functioned. She arranged the togs around to turn on the heat, stretching out on the ground on her stomach to hold her hands up to the lantern, warming them up. Tabitha was slowly realising the more she learned about magic, the less she hated it, and the more she wished she could be a witch, too. All the power she could have with just a wooden stick; but she would have to settle for being given things that other wizards charmed for her, or managed to steal for herself. "This is perfect. Thank you! It's getting to be really fucking cold out here." Marius laughed at her choice of words. "You would only need to ask me if you needed anything," he said, recasting his own warming spell so that the air around them felt warm and pleasant. "You have done me two sizable favours and have told no one. There are few of the Death Eaters I would trust so much with any secret," he confided. "And there are still two more girls that are due their revenge," he added. "One is Lily Potter, and the other is unknown to me, but I will find out who she was soon enough. Even as happy as I am with my marriage I can not be truly happy until the two of them are dead, and our families have been returned to us," he said. "Which reminds me, you have one more gift." He pulled out a small blue box and handed it to her. Inside were two necklaces, one with a white gold locket designed with stars and a full moon, and the other was more masculine looking with a small key dangling from the end. "There is a tracking spell on the key," he said. "Give it to anyone you wish and if they are wearing it, I can find them for you," he said. There was also a tracking spell on the locket but Marius refrained from explaining that part. He wasn't sure how Tabitha would take him tracking her, but it was always in a person's best interest to know where their friends were. "And you can call on me whenever you want my help. Especially with getting revenge on the whelps that did this to your family and Fenrir." Just thinking about how a handful of children managed to capture so many of them made her angry, a growl rising in the back of her throat. Tabitha was confident they could get them, no matter how long it took -- after all, they had already gotten rid of one of them. How hard could it be? This Lily Potter would be next, and then all they would have to do is find out the identity of the last person. She wanted to spill their blood, spend a message to anyone that NO ONE could capture them, not without consequences. She wanted them all to think twice before trying to get back at any of them. Tabitha opened the box as it was handed to her, examining the necklaces inside and enjoying the irony (and beauty) of the necklace with a design of stars and a moon on it. She took that one out, putting it on around her neck and touching the locket with her fingers, wondering if she could somehow get her hands on a small photo of herself and Aaron to put inside. "These are brilliant. I'll give the other one to my husband." After what happened with Aaron's hand, there was no way she wanted to lose track of her husband ever again. She wanted to make sure he could always be found if something happened or if he needed her for any reason. Marius smiled. "I'm glad that you like them," he said. "You have been most helpful to me when I needed you, and that is not something I take lightly. Now, I should be getting back to Astra. If you need anything, owl me," he added. He pushed himself up from the cold ground and cast a quick spell to clean off his clothes. He didn't want Astra to think he'd been rolling around on the ground with another woman, after all. Given his history, even a werewolf affair wouldn't be completely unthinkable. "It was good to see you, Tabitha." And with that, Tabitha watched Marius apparate away with a loud pop before she began to make her way back to camp. |
