Rodolphus's offer had been on Jo's mind almost non-stop since he had contacted her via journals. She seemed in a daze; half aware of the work around her until finally, she had enough. This was in her best interest to take to higher authorities. Marius might have been a coup, but Rodolphus Lestrange would be a victory well regarded.
Knocking twice on Senior's door, she turned the knob and entered before he had a chance to react. She sat quickly and crossed her legs, letting it all come tumbling out. "Rodolphus Lestrange will consent to arrest if we release his son."
Senior looked up from the paperwork he was filling out regarding the event as Auror Savage more or less barged into his room before he had a chance to inform her to enter.
He raised an eyebrow and set down his quill and looked at her. "That is all very well Auror Savage, however as there is nothing we can pin on Mr. Lestrange at this time then I cannot agree to the trade."
She furrowed her brow in frustration, for a moment hating Senior's rather black and white sense of judgment. A scoff was a moment from her lips.
"How about we blame him for any number of things he and his son got off on? How about we say he Imperiused the little shit-face?"
"There would need to be evidence to back up, or a sworn statement that he was in fact associated with that and Imperiused his son to do those things," he replied perhaps a little bit more interesting.
Marius Lestrange was a fly, but Rodolphus Lestrange was someone much more interesting. "However, at the same time I am not sure a statement will be helpful since it could also look like he is simply protecting his son, admirable, but not a reason I am willing to trade him for his son."
"I think," she said quite simply, "I could get you whatever you wanted."
"Meaning what exactly Auror Savage?" he replied looking at her. "I am willing to do the trade if there is some other infomation he is willing to depart with us, assuming he is actually a member of the Death Eaters," he explained raising his chin slightly. "And not just a worried father."
Shuffling a pile of papers she had brought in with her (journal between two folders), she made to scribble a few notes before looking again to Senior. "What if I can get that?"
He frowned a little bit at that suprised at the easy agreement before he inclined his head slightly.
"Then he would need to come in and give an offical statement as to why the younger Mr. Lestrange is innocent and why part he has played with the Death Eaters. He will also need to do so under Veritserum."
"If he complies," she said slowly, narrowing her eyes over the edge of Senior's desk, "Will we give Marius a full pardon?"
Snr tapped his fingers against his desk. "A pardon as well as a informative note regarding the situation and it's events on his record would be adequate."
Transcribing the response to paper, she flourished her quill. "And his sister?"
"Remains where she is, he agreed to trade for Marius Lestrange and I am willing to let one of them go, but not both. Mr. Lestrange is more than willing to trade himself for the same deal for Miss. Lestrange," he replied hoping he would.
For her own part, though she would be loathe to admit it, Senior's attitude toward Corbina Lestrange was vaguely stultifying. She had, obviously, no part in Dark activities prior to the night, though she could probably be counted among her brothers' staunchest supporters. "Veritaserum is a rather incomprehensive tool to use on the likes of Lestrange, sir."
"And what would you suggest as an alternate method Auror Savage?" he replied looking at her. "Like I said before. I am not willing to put a man behind bars unless there is undeniable proof that he was involved in the actions you suggested. It will only come back and haunt the Department later on."
"He can give specific detail in the McKinnon murders," she was nearly breathless between words. "Details only the perpetrator would know."
Snr thought about it, looking down at the desk, fingers tapping against the table before he nodded his head. "Very well. Inform Mr. Lestrange that the deal has been made, and add on that if he deicdes to try and get out this deal later on through some loop hole, that Marius Lestrange will be retrieved and placed back in Azkaban in solitary confinement for the full life sentence without a chance parole."
"I will inform him immediately," she murmured, shutting her journal with a snap of her wrist. Rising, she let her eyes linger over Senior's careworn face for a moment before turning to leave.
