It simply wasn't fair for Tabby to play her games when the sun was out, Clara had decided. The stupid sun ruined everything, but clearly if she wanted to play she would have to do it herself, only she wouldn't do it with messy grown-ups and werewolves that spilled precious blood all over the place because they didn't even understand how sacred it was and how it was the same as the black threads that looped through the earth and the plants and everything that lived. She'd just find a dolly to play with instead, all wrapped up in blankies so she could look after it like a proper parent who didn't let monsters steal their children away.
With the waxing moon rising in the sky the streets of the town she was in were quiet, and little moved as she crept through the streets. Cars sat like large, shining rocks in several of the driveways, unnatural in their sleekness and the noise they made when people touched them, a thunderous roar that wasn't like anything in nature, angry and invading. She didn't like them, but she made herself get close enough to peer inside them, looking for baby seats strapped in to the backs. She found one, finally, and crouched in the shadows for several minutes as she gazed at the house and the house gazed back, the two equally still and silent.
There was a window open near the back of the house and she slithered in easily, thin frame coming in useful in the small space. Bare feet made no noise on carpet and even the air hugged her, loving her, concealing her presence from the stupid people who thought they knew everything but didn't even realise she was there. The baby's room was filled with rubbish, bright colours and plastic toys that had nothing to do with reality, all created as a barrier against the other worlds, things to keep the blind grounded. It would be a gift to take the baby out of here.
It started to wake as she lifted it up and she started humming softly, wrapping the blanket securely around its little body until it settled again. Oh, glory, glory! It was so little, with tiny little fingers, skin almost translucent and life all through it, still young enough that if it opened its eyes it could probably see everything like she did. She couldn't stand here staring at it all night, though. She wanted to be far away when the stupid parents woke to check on the precious gem they didn't even know they had.
From inside she could simply unbolt the door and slip out, not even bothering to close it behind her as she moved into the street and started moving back out of town, heels not even touching the ground as she ran swiftly north. She'd be safe soon, and then she could play house with her new dolly.
