The Good and the Bad Date & Time: 6 November 2002 | Evening Post Type: RP Status: Closed: Complete Character(s): Will Turpin, Hestia Jones Location: The Three Broomsticks Summary: Will and Hestia talk over a drink or two.
Will was glad to have a night off. It was unusual just how glad he was. Working long and hard wasn't something that had ever bothered him, but the last month had been wearing on him. Heavy pressure, dead ends in the investigation, ill co-workers, under-staffing...the list didn't seem to end. Lisa had him half-crazy with worry with her cold and now her sick roommate, and Timothy and his girl troubles only seemed to magnify exactly how little of a personal life Will had these days.
All that made having a drink with Hestia both good and bad. Good, because he was actually getting out of his flat and would see his friend, but bad, because it would only remind him of what he hadn't accomplished. Her husband--well, ex-husband--had died, and Will and his team couldn't even get a decent lead on whoever had caused it. They didn't know why, they didn't know how, beyond some poorly combined potions ingredients, and they sure as hell didn't know who. It was guilt enough seeing the faces of the Auror Squad, knowing that their double shifts and drawn faces were largely due to the incident he was investigating.
But seeing Hestia, and knowing, at the very least, that her daughter had lost her father, it would be worse.
Sighing and rubbing a hand across his face, Will took the Floo to the Three Broomsticks just before seven and tried to think happier thoughts. It wasn't like him to dwell on the grim and unfixable, and she certainly didn't need to see that from him. The investigation wasn't hopeless--it just felt like it some days. He put on a smile, and it felt relatively genuine as he conversed with a barmaid and waited for Hestia to arrive.
