Chuckling, he set the other bag next to its twin and began to unload different sized take-way boxes. They were labeled with strange markings that were only decipherable by those in the Know; everyone else just had to open up the boxes one at a time. "Yeah, I remember. Wasn't there a strawberry one? I liked that one too. Maybe I got one this time. I just sort of pulled them blindly. The bloke at the counter probably thought I was feeding a family of thirty."
He laughed again, and then grew a bit quiet under her scrutiny. For a moment, he thought he might have done something wrong and wondered what it was. Was it the hug? Had she noticed that he had almost kissed her? He grinned, however- was it from relief?- when she put her thought into words. It was a grin covered with a touch of a self-conscious flush, though, as though he was embarrassed. Maybe he was, just a little. "I am. For the first time in ages, it feels like."
He took in a deep breath and then looked at her squarely. "Today, for the first time in ages," he said in a voice that was tinged with disbelief, "I got to work with dragons."
