Summary: Percy makes his way down to lunch.
Percy checked his watch and his timetable (Timetable: Tuesday 18th October: 1:00 – Eat lunch in the canteen) and made his way down to the ministry canteen. Normally on such a busy day he would be working through lunch but today he needed the break. He had left Samuel (Personnel Notebook: Samuel Jones – trainee, 18, short light brown hair, brown eyes, average build and height, has tendency to look and act slightly too casually for the office) in charge and felt almost guilty for it.
Samuel had yet to prove himself but Percy had been just too forgetful lately to deal with meetings and appointments. Instead he had concentrated on paperwork and anything he could do that didn't involve people. He often forgot what he was doing or did a job twice, but with the help of his timetable and his to-do-list he just about got by. It was when he had to talk to people in the office that things got tricky. The other day he had completely forgotten Samuels name until after lunch and had spent the morning avoiding the poor bloke. But Percy could adapt. He could cope. It just meant more changes. More organisation. So he had introduced his Personnel Notebook and had spent the rest of the afternoon adding the name, job and physical description of everyone he could think of – just in case he forgot any more names.
He had his timetable, his to-do-list, his Personnel Notebook and his watch. He would be fine. Percy was so used to the stress of his current tendency towards forgetfulness that he was almost used to it. The worry was like a constant noise in the background. He could hear it, feel it, all the time. He was used to it now.
Besides, it wasn't his own feelings that were the most important right now. He would be okay. He would recover and be back to normal in time. But the ministry and his family needed him to be strong. He couldn't let them down.
Percy checked his watch (1:03) and noticed a small line of neat handwriting picked out in gold lettering against the brown leather strap of his watch – inside pocket – it said. Percy checked his pocket and found a to-do-list, what looked like a rather long timetable and a small black notebook full of names.
Timetable: Tuesday 18th October: 1:00 – Eat lunch in the canteen.
Of course. How could he have forgotten.
