Owl: Dean Thomas
Date & Time: 3 April 2003
Post Type: Owl
Status: Open: Private
Character(s): Hannah Abbott and Dean Thomas
Location: Respective
Summary: Hannah takes a leap

Closing the book, she brought it up to her chest and sighed. It had been a perfect story of strength and independence and love; all things she felt were missing in her life. Even at the age of 23 and a whole life a head of her, Hannah felt like she had accomplished nothing. She was the general manager of a successful pub, but that was all. There was no man in her life, very few interactions with her friends. Sometimes, she felt like a horrible friend, spending too much time at work and too much time taking care of her customers rather than herself.

Hannah looked at herself, sitting alone in her studio flat above the pub. Her life was...boring; uninspired. As she stood from the chair in her flat and crossed into the kitchen, thinking one of Sylvia's cookies would be lovely, her eyes fell on one of the fliers Dean had left downstairs. Apprentice artist is looking for one or more life models to work on an as-needed basis...

If asked what possessed her to owl Dean, Hannah would have had no idea; she just did it. It was her way of changing the existing that was her life.

Dean,

I want to offer my services or rather I'd like to model for you. I know I don't look like the typical artist model or even act like one. Also, I have no experience.

I'm trying to sound professional, but the truth is, I think I need to do something I've never done before. My life is I understand if you say no; I just wanted to be of help if you still were looking for someone.

Best,
Hannah

Dean had been puttering around the studio finishing off some tasks when the owl came through. He'd been caught in a rush of inspiration during the day and Anna had allowed him abandon his work on a new batch of potion, once it was past the delicate stage, so that he could follow it through. Which meant that his afternoon tasks had been delayed and he was finishing up past his normal finishing time.

He read the owl with surprise, feeding the bird that had brought it some treats and asking it to wait. He picked up a quill and composed a reply, starting and stopping several times.

Dear Hannah,

Thank you for your offer. As I told you I don't mind working with people without experience. Just so you know, there is no 'typical' artist's model. although they do have a tendency towards the older and hippy.

I am still looking for a model, I've had a few responses, but nothing very firm as yet, so I'd be happy for you to model for me. What times might you be free, so we can arrange a session, or to talk? My schedule is extremely flexible most of the time, so I'm willing to work with what you are able to do.

If you have any questions about anything, please, owl back and I'll do my best to answer them.

On a professional note, as you have no experience I cannot offer you the full advertised hourly rate. However, I propose 1 Galleon, 9 sickles an hour. Would that be acceptable to you?

Thank you for your owl, I look forward to hearing from you again.

All the best,

Dean Thomas.

I meant I'm not the skinny type that are in magazines. Actually, I'm a little chubby. I'm surprise, but pleased that you'd want someone like me.

Morning are usually better for me, just in case something happens at the pub or the weekends before 5 PM. I hope these work for you as well. Questions...I don't think I have any...Although I request that you not laugh at what you see.

Oh, you don't have to pay me. I want to do this; I need to do this.

Best,
Hannah

Hannah,

Believe me there is no particular 'type' when you're learning, no matter what might end up in magazines. It's important I can draw anyone, so I've definitely drawn some older, larger people.

I'll have to check with my boss tomorrow, but weekends are good for me, around midday onwards. Saturday perhaps? And I wouldn't laugh I've done this before, and I'm not a schoolkid.

I might have to talk to you about money, it's just more professional if I pay you something, even if it's coffee and cake during breaks or something.

Oh and you should bring a dressing gown, or cloak or something you can wrap around yourself, whenever we happen do this.

All the best,
Dean

After reading his note, Hannah felt somewhat more confident with her offer to pose for him. Still, a small voice in her head kept nagging at her, What are you thinking? Has someone Oblviated your mind?! She wrote a quick response after writing down the time in her planner. Now she had to go through with it.

Dean

I'm glad you don't mind the way I look; you're right an apprentice should learn all kinds of body types.

Saturday will be fine; say 1 o'clock? If it would make you feel better, coffee and cake would be acceptable, but I refuse to take any of your money. I hear artist are supposedly starving.

I have a dressing gown that I will bring.

Thank you and I will see you Saturday!

Hannah,

I am definitely not a starving artist! Although that might be because people take pity on my cooking rather than my ability to budget.

Saturday at 1 sounds good to me. I'll make sure I have coffee and cake in.

See you then,

Dean
