Making it Work Date & Time: 4 February 2003 Post Type: RP Status: Closed: Complete Character(s): Mel McKenzie, Timothy Cornfoot Location: Portree, Mel's parents' house Summary: Mel and Timothy get some work done in a slightly unconventional place.
By the time dinner was over, Mel was glad she'd decided to invite Timothy over for dinner. She'd spent a large chunk of the last week at her parents' house, letting her mum fawn over her and place nursemaid. It wasn't the worst spell she'd ever had, but it had turned into a pretty bad one by earlier in the week, and she hadn't wanted Cassie to feel obligated to stick around the flat for support. Her mum was only too glad to have something to keep her occupied. She'd been feeling idle ever since retiring from teaching the previous school year.
But something about being back home had begun to make her feel idle. It was a lot harder to make an excuse to be alone and just write without her mum checking on her every few minutes, and while she loved her parents, their company alone did get a little tiresome. And now that she was feeling a bit better, the itch to get back to work had been almost unbearable.
"Sorry I didn't warn you about the crowd," Mel said as she and Timothy made their way back to the study. Her dad had graciously agreed to let them take it over for the evening. It was going to be nice to have a place to spread out that wasn't her childhood bedroom. "I didn't realise Hailey and the kiddos were going to be here tonight."
