Summary: Liliana and Claire catch up over pizza.
Liliana set down her juice and sat back. Hearing all about Claire's wedding plans, as well as a surprise had been quite a shock. Claire was two months pregnant. A husband, a baby and a career. Liliana pursed her lips. It was hard not to feel unaccomplished when she looked at her older cousin.
Claire sipped her cocoa, "So what have you been up to? Hopefully not too much work, I hope."
It took her a moment to look up and realize that Claire was asking about her. "I've been awfully confused actually." She fiddled a moment with the pizza on her plate, indecisive. "I was hoping to get some advice from you." Get it over with... Liliana knew that Claire was hardly the type to agree with open relationships and wasn't looking forward to the lecture. "I've been seeing someone that I really like since Halloween. I spent Christmas with him." She pondered telling Claire that they'd slept together, "Everything's brilliant."
Her cousin's red brows furrowed, "But?" Claire made it obvious that she wanted to hear the rest.
"Well, we've been seeing each other but not exclusively. So I've been seeing that Quidditch player that Dad always raves about, and he's a great bloke as well. We haven't been seeing each other as long, or as seriously," Liliana wondered if Claire would make the connection, "But now Reg, the Quidditch player, wants me to either commit or stop seeing each other."
Claire's eyes went wide, "You've been seeing two blokes?! Liliana!" And then came the admonishment. "You should've known better. This was bound to happen and I'm surprised that you didn't realize that to begin with."
Liliana frowned, "It's the longest bloody relationship I've had and-" she swallowed, "Timothy was my first...." Liliana hardly recognized her stammering confession.
Her cousin gasped. "Are you serious?" She looked around and then leaned in to whisper. "You were still a virgin?" When Liliana nodded, Claire munched on a chip, thinking furiously. "Do you like one more than the other?"
"No," Liliana said definitely, "The only thing keeping me from picking one or the other is the other. I want to ask Timothy to commit because he's my first and all but at the same time I at least know Reginald wants to. I don't know about Timothy and I only realized that I'd like to be with him after talking to Reg the other day." She huffed, "I never knew blokes could be so damned confusing!"
Claire nodded slowly, "Well, you could always talk to Timothy about it and if he doesn't want to commit, just re-evaluate. It sounds tacky, but if he's the one you'd rather be with, I would talk to him. You don't want to stay with him and only get yourself more attached to a bloke with no interest in staying with you."
Her cousin, despite being pregnant and hormonal, was making shocking sense. Liliana rested her chin in her palm and let out another huff. "You make perfect sense." She took a lazy bite in to her pizza slice, swallowing before she continued. "I just have no idea how to talk to Timothy about it without sounding ridiculously clingy."
The wisdom Liliana saw in Claire's eyes came from years of experience dating blokes that Liliana had never had. "Just be honest. You're cheating yourself otherwise."
Liliana finished chewing another few bites, mulling over the idea. "Honest," she said, "Right."
