Something's Wrong Here Date & Time: 30 December 2002 | Mid-morning Post Type: Introspection Status: Closed: Complete Character(s): Franchesca "Frannie" Giordano (NPC) Location: St. Mungo's Summary: Frannie tests multiple batches in the Apothecary after potions are found to be inadequate.
Frannie rested her clipboard on her hip, tapped her quill against the paperwork, and glanced over her shoulder again. It felt strange to be checking behind an employee, and checking behind Romilda made her uncomfortable.
"It's not your fault she's a shoddy potion maker," Frannie whispered. She shoved the quill behind one ear and tried to rub the ink from her fingertips as she looked over her test results so far. The Apothecary wouldn't be in this mess (and they were in a mess, weren't they?) if Romilda had paid more attention to what she was doing.
First, Frannie had been told by Master Chang to test an entire batch of contraceptive potions nearly two and a half months ago. Frannie did as she was told even if it did take her all day to complete the task. She'd nearly choked on her colour changing lolly when she'd realised the entire batch (which they'd already given to patients) had been brewed with burnt stinging nettles! Frannie had run out of the back lab to tell Master Chang and completely forgotten her hair was bright blue because of the lolly. Fortunately, Master Chang had only laughed and ushered them to a more private area to discuss the bad batch mixed by Romilda.
A month later, a batch of Fever-Reducing potions had turned six patients a nasty shade of green, and once again, Master Chang asked Frannie to test out the batch and see what had gone wrong. For starters, the batch had been made by Romilda, and secondly, the batch had been mixed with seedless Crinkler pods instead of seedless Firetip pods. An unacceptable mistake, in Frannie's opinion.
Since then, Master Chang had asked Frannie to continue to test batches brewed by Romilda, but Master Chang didn't want Romilda to find out what Frannie was doing, so Frannie felt like a spy, which was both exciting and a bit terrifying. Romilda had a nasty temperament sometimes, and Frannie didn't fancy finding herself on the receiving end of that mood. However, it was becoming painfully obvious that Romilda wasn't doing her job well. But why? People's lives were at stake; didn't Romilda understand that?
Frannie made one last note on her clipboard before she worked her way quietly to the front lab where Master Chang was working. It was time for Frannie to tell her boss that she'd found another bad batch of potions, which would bring the grand total of lousy batches to eight.
