He opened his mouth to pipe up, but the two ladies were going back and forth so effortlessly that he could hardly get a word in. Mandy was a little tense at first, but he could feel her relaxing next to him, hear it in her words. But when Gran asked about that night, Neville slipped in his hand silently into Mandy's free one. She'd been much better since the day he'd spent with her, but he knew it was still an upsetting topic.
"You did do something," he said quietly. "Even if it didn't cure them in the end."
Neville nodded at Gran's next words, but left it for Mandy to answer. She did have trouble leaving work behind sometimes, but to a certain extent, he thought that made her better at what she did. And he thought maybe he helped her leave it behind some days, hopefully enough to balance it out.
