Puzzle Pieces Date & Time: September 8th, 2002, mid-day Post Type: RP, Introspection Status: Closed: Complete Character: Luna Lovegood Location: Once Sold Tales Summary: Luna reflects on a certain current event.
The book shop was slow today, even compared to usual. Luna was just fine with that; she had some reading of her own to do, and having no customers to derail her thoughts was a marvelous thing. At least at the moment.
Several days worth of newspapers were spread out in front of her as she compared notes from different stories. She normally avoided the Daily Prophet on principle, a leftover habit from the days when her father ran The Quibbler, but today she had both that paper and the Independent spread out in front of her as she reread the details about the deaths of the five aurors.
The names were listed, and neither Harry nor Ron was listed among them, thank Merlin. Luna knew she was trying to make sense of what was an unsolvable riddle at this point, since authorities had access to much more information than she did and couldn't figure it out. But she kept wondering if she read the articles enough times, tried rearranging the information in the right way, perhaps it might begin to make sense. Nothing made much sense the way it was presented, after all.
Eventually, she sighed and folded up the papers. She still had work to do, and her boss would not appreciate it if she stared at papers all day long. Especially when staring at the papers wasn't going to solve anything. She glanced one last time at the photos of the aurors before putting away the papers. She'd write Harry and Ron later to check on them and make sure they were doing all right. For now, though, she turned to a stack of books and began sorting them.
