Stephen thought on what Matthew had said for a moment, considering this in a way he really shouldn't have since he wasn't a professional and Matthew was his friend and not a client of any sort. Still, Stephen assumed the right to be pretentious. "Maybe it's the concept of submission," he said out of the blue, "Or at least that's what I can think of. Congenitally adverse to submission."
Honestly, he wasn't sure where he was going with this, but he had a certain amount of confidence that he was right. "Like, he could abuse her and...touch her, but he wouldn't have someone show the same sort of thing to him. Or something. Oh!" He was sure he had it right this time. "You never formed a bond with your mother, so it'd be like a stranger holding you. It always comes back to the mother. Shit fucks you up."
Now he was sure he had it down, but where it lead he could not say. And then Matthew downed half his glass in one go. "Jesus, mate," he said, "Slow down, you'll damage something."
