There were very few people in the world that Rita could actually, truly and genuinely stand; Verity was among those special few. They had grown up together, being that they were cousins and both attended Hogwarts together, most importantly, however, they got along all too easily. Even as children they had viewed the world in very similar lights. Much of their relationship was spent gossiping with one another, complaining of the stupidity of humanity and the like; equally, however, Rita had always turned to her cousin in times of need and tragedy, Verity was her confidant and closest friend through the best and worst times of her life. Not that she'd willingly admit this. Ever.
Today had been just one of those days, where she was particularly rough around the edges (more so than usual) for no reason at all. Everything and everyone was grating on her nerves to a ridiculous degree and she needed some time to vent and relax. The best person for the job? Verity, obviously.
Earlier on in the day, after she had realized just what sort of a mood she was in, Rita had sent her cousin an owl requesting a get-together after work --her place of course, Rita loved the comforts of her own home. When Verity had agreed to it, she immediately informed her higher-ups that she would be leaving earlier than usual and paid no heed to their complaints; she left exactly at the time she had specified, regardless of if there was work to be done, they would have to deal. She had stopped by a local shop for a classy bottle of wine (she'd indulge this evening, even if her funds were running rather low).
Everything had been set up for Verity's arrival. Just some snacks for them to pick at, two glasses, wine and the tea was on the stove. Rita had even changed into something comfortable that rather closely resembled pajamas or workout attire. There was no need to impress, it was only Verity and they were only going to spend the evening bitching about all the morons in the world (and there were quite a few). She didn't imagine she'd have any reason to wear any of her nicer outfits. Although, her makeup was still intact her hair remained in its perfectly coiffed style.
All she had left was waiting for her cousin. But, of course, that was the hard part.
