"Indeed?" Diana responded wryly to Aberforth's suggestion that James would be safe in Knockturn Alley. "It was always my experience that anyone was willing to sell out anyone else! I mean, the people who still live in Knockturn now are either Death Eaters who like the dark atmosphere, or else they're Halfbloods who can't afford better!"
She, too, smiled grimly back at Abe, at his accusation that she might betray them. "Sir, really now... I may be a Slytherin, but that only means I know which side of my bread is buttered on! I shan't betray the man who's helping me escape this horrid life!"
But as Abe called her a 'flibbertigibbet', her grim smile vanished, replaced by pursed lips within a face flushed with anger. She didn't speak, however, and she only hoped that Abe would take it as a sign that she could, in fact, be silent, and not that she was too angry to even manage to get words out -- which was certainly not the case, not at all; she knew exactly the words she wanted to tell him off with!
But still, the tension broke when James spoke up on her behalf. "Really, sweet?" she asked him, with a wry smile. "Only once or twice? HONESTLY, I thought you were close to the brink no less than once or twice a week, since you moved in with me!"
