Aberforth looked faintly amused at James' defence of the girl but didn't argue it. If the lad wanted to think of her like that, well, that was his prerogative. His thoughts drifted back to more difficult times and the things he'd seen... and done for that matter. Had he been much older than these two? Not for some of it but then he'd grown up a lot faster than they had after what had happened to Ariana. He'd discovered at a very young age that life isn't fair and that thinking was far more important than doing. Admittedly Albus had learned that last lesson faster than he had. It had taken the Muggle First World War for Abe to figure that one out. Not that he hadn't done things in the two wars in the Forties. He'd just thought first before doing them.
He raised an eyebrow at Di. "And do these two flatmates know of your grand plans to escape? Either way, I'll want to meet them first and they'll have to use the normal way I do this. I'm bending my rules to let you past without doing the normal checks and the only reason I'm doing that is because of James. More than you, no, the normal process will have to be followed. I'm not taking that much of a risk."
That was perhaps harsh of him but there were allowable risks and there were foolish risks. He hadn't stayed free and clear this long by being stupid. He watched the two sitting opposite him with more of that mild amusement. James' reactions were about what he'd expected but the girl was bidding fair to be trouble. For someone who'd been raped, she was apparently obsessed with sex. It sometimes seemed as if every second word was either something to do with sex or a reminder that she was a prostitute. She seemed to like to rub everyone's faces in it. He resisted the urge to roll his eyes and reminded himself that she was young and apparently very naive. He assumed she wasn't as stupid as she acted given she'd qualified for Auror training but she wasn't doing much to confirm that assumption.
"Just be careful," he said soberly to James. "The Death Eaters only need to find out from your neighbours about you. Pick a good cover story and stick to it. Keep it simple. The best lies are always simple." He left it at that. He knew there was only so much advice he could give them. Much of it they'd have to learn through experience unfortunately. "Now, the work. Mostly it's courier type work. Pick ups and deliveries. Some of it's legal, some of it's not. Some of it's in the Muggle world but some of it isn't. How good are your glamour charms and other disguising magics? You'll need to go to Diagon and Knockturn Alleys sometimes."
