She had been a tad unsure if the dog was friendly, but she hadn’t been too worried. She kept her wand in one of her coat pockets. Of course, Eileen wasn’t that worried otherwise she wouldn’t have approached the dog at all, but she’d never been the best judge of character. If she was, then well, she wouldn’t be crouching in a small ally way trying to converse with a dog.
The dog looked up at her with warily before sniffing the candy in her hand. She must have passed his scrutiny because a second later he devoured the odd flavored jelly beans. Eileen smiled down at the large animal and leaned over to pet his head. His fur was matted, and oily, not unlike how her hair had been before she’d left behind her life of poverty. A twang of empathy pulled at her, as she watched the dog wobble as it got up. There was no doubt in her mind, this dog had been abused or abandoned. Knowing muggles, probably both. Eileen had little to no compassion to spare for her fellow humans, but something about this creature soothed her.
As he?she stared up at her with expectant doeful eyes, Eileen knew she wouldn’t be getting rid of the dog for a long time.
“You want food? Lets head off, then” She patted him?her on the head, before standing up and heading out of the ally. Eileen looked him?her over again before deciding she’d have to figure out what gender the damn thing was when she got home.
“So, do you have a name Dog?” She asked her voice still cracking. Eileen wasn’t going to call the damn thing dog the whole way home. Crazy as this may be, she did have some standards. Quite suddenly the most inappropriate name for the creature popped in her head. She couldn’t help but grin, a bit creepily considering how little she smiled. “How about Snuffles?
