Essentially Stephen knew that there was still plenty of violence going on out there. It seemed to be all anyone could talk about, unless they were talking princes. Or at least, unless they were Rita Skeeter, who could probably talk about your dating habits and family misfortunes during a nuclear holocaust. But despite Britain's current police state, Stephen guessed that they weren't really at war. So technically it was peacetime, for all the peace there was.
Stephen pressed his lips into a line when he heard Matthew talk about Di. It wasn't really news to him, what with the things he'd heard about the Auror purges. It was obvious she'd gone in that. But she wasn't the only person he knew who'd gone. It seemed like everyone who hadn't died had disappeared, only to be replaced by these people he didn't know.
Perhaps that was why he'd sought out Matthew.
Had he been like this for the last five months? "I...I know," he said, rather awkwardly, and then looked straight at Matthew, with a certain degree of practiced indifference. "But she was your enemy, right? Stood for everything you stood against and such. You defeated her."
