"Never said you were," Carr responded, taking back part of the money he'd put down. "But if my mum knew I wasn't offering to pay for a lady's dinner, I'd get a skelp when I got home." He slid out of the booth after her and headed for the door, lighting up a cigarette once they got outside.
"That's where I'm staying, too," he smiles. At least he doesn't have to go far out of his way to make sure she's home safe.
