Mary sighed and rested her chin on her hand, thinking.
"Took you awhile to trust me where I'm from too."
She was going to go with 'where' because saying 'when' just didn't sound right. Even though she knew firsthand that time travel was possible, her brain still rebelled at the idea.
"We kept bumping into each other on jobs. Sometimes you were the one saving my ass, sometimes it was the other way around. Eventually you gave me a way to get in touch and I started calling you in sometimes when I needed the help."
She took another sip of the whiskey, buying a little bit more time.
"Being a hunter's usually a lonely sort of life. You find someone that you can trust to have your back, it's hard not to start to care about them after awhile."
She was referring to herself more than she was him, because she hadn't thought he was specifically a hunter. He was something other than that, though he had certainly known enough to be a great help to her. Whatever he might have specifically considered himself, it had always seemed to her like he'd been lonely too.
