When the man in the car began talking, making his offer of a truce, Godric surmised that his initial assumption that the man was reaching for a gun might have been incorrect. After all, this was not the typical small town citizen with a case of stranger danger. This was a man whose language betrayed a knowledge of a world beyond the usual human's comprehension. As such, people who knew the world of the supernatural tended not to have guns, if only for the simple reason that they were often useless and generally irritating.
Granted, if this mortal man was reaching for a stake or crossbow to use against a vampire of Godric's age, it would be just as foolhardy as a pistol. But, for the time being, the man seemed to not wish to instigate a fight, and Godric was more than happy to oblige nonviolence.
"You use old language and evoke even older practice. Your ancient words betray the mind behind your young face. However, I respect their meaning and honor the intent for which they stand. I abide by your truce."
For the first time since interaction became tense, Godric took a step forward. With his palms open and out, the vampire hoped he was portraying an image of kindness. He wanted to make it clear that his word was his bond.
"As I said in the beginning, I do not wish to harm you. In fact, the preservation of humans, not their destruction, is what brought me to this town. To that end, I will honor that truce for as long as we both shall walk the borders of this land. However, if you are here in the name of Hell, I'd prefer to know now, so that I may let you fix your car in peace this night...and let you pray we not meet again."
