Ellen smiled then, eyes welling up with tears. It was a good memory; not that there was a shortage, but things had been...simpler, when she was that young.
"Yeah," she whispered, nodding. "When I was sick, or I couldn't sleep. You used to sing 'Hey Jude'." She looked down at her hands, smile widening. "I used to pinch myself, sometimes. Make myself stay awake?" She looked over at him, slightly guilty-looking.
"I knew if I stayed up long enough, you'd come in and sit with me." She laughed, then, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. "You always knew. And you'd sing to me anyway."
