It wasn't so much the accent as Mel noticing that this place didn't seem to be where Julian fit. The bike, the clothes... okay, a little bit was the accent... none of it was really this place. It just wasn't quite right. She believed Julian fit in at the college, but not that this town was home.
She knew that he'd ask her the same question. What she hadn't really thought through was how she'd answer it. Mel arched an eyebrow and took another sip of the coffee.
"New York," she said. Technically, that was true. She didn't like lying, though. "There's a part called Haddyn." She smiled, slightly. "And it's not the accent, with you. It's everything. Just doesn't seem like this is where you got to be you."
