"But you wouldn't be here. So I need something to remember you by." Julian tilted his head a bit, looking at the sketch, then turned the pad around for Mel to see. It wasn't his best work, with the lack of proper tools, but it would hold the image enough for him to remember properly. Once he got home, he could do it some justice.
He looked back at her, eyes serious. "I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to talk to you. But I do know how that feels. You have a cell phone? Some way I can reach you when I get out of here? Maybe we can get some coffee or something."
It was a clumsy offer, but no less genuine for that.
