Mel nodded. She had no idea what a valley girl was, but she'd look it up later. Or ask Harry. There was only so much asking you could do without outing yourself as not belonging.
She frowned. Dawn and Giles really weren't gonna stick around, and Mel didn't know if she could get back to her time and place. She was going to need to make new friends, or something. A lot of them. Make it so that if she never got home, she didn't mind.
She'd forgotten that Giles had moved location. When she first tried to find him, he'd been at the other motel. But then he'd been attacked, so... she understood their moving.
"That's where I've been staying, too," Mel said. She grinned. That might have to change soon, because she didn't have a lot of money, and the council was helping her, but not that much.
As they went past the bookstore on the edge of campus, Mel heard footsteps. That was quick.
She stopped walking for a second. The footsteps stopped, too.
