He was yelling at her? That kept her just this side of angry.
"Scared of him?" Phaedra smiled. It was not a particularly nice smile, but it was still attractive. It was predatory. "He already took everything I have," she said.
He'd taken her family first. Then her life. She'd been exiled from continuing to serve her tribe, and watched them all die, one by one. Phaedra'd been quite alone the last couple centuries. Down to the bone, even if there were other people or vampires around her, with or without one night stands.
"If he takes you too," she said, shouting back, "I have nothing. Left. To. Lose."
It was almost said through gritted teeth. She'd burned Thomas. That had happened. Was it so much to hear the words?
"Tell me I shouldn't care,: she said. "It'd be much easier. Tell me I should take the contract someone put out on you tonight instead of protecting you like a complete fucking idiot."
