"Not your fault," he said. Words were still a little tough, but they were getting easier. "You're not a wizard. No reason to expect that'd happen."
For about two minutes, silence just hung there. Dean didn't know what to say. At least with Harry, they'd had a lot of similar experiences. All the big heavy shit. He didn't know what to say to Jo. It felt like he'd intruded, big time. He was never supposed to see all of that. Any conversation you had with a lover about exes, it never laid things like what he'd seen about that boyfriend bare the way the soul gaze just did.
Dean stood up, and went over to where Mol- no, it's not Molly. It's Jo.- Jo was and picked her up. It felt weird to touch Molly's body, mainly because she'd always been so twitchy with him. Dean didn't figure he'd ever get a hug outta Molly. But he helped Jo to her feet, and he wrapped his arms around her. He wondered if this meant he was immune to ever soul gazing Molly.
"I, uh..." Dean sighed. "I woulda done just about anything to make sure you never saw all of that."
He could imagine how his greatest hits played.
"I never wanted you to see..." There it was. The choke. The hiccup in his voice. "... hell."
