Dawn gaped at the guy, eyes moving between his face and the object on the cushion. It was beautiful - whatever it was - but she was naturally suspicious of accepting a gift from a strange man at a carnival. It was rare that anything came for free, and the things that seemed like gifts often carried the highest price.
