El picked up one of the pieces of bacon in her fingers, poking the rubbery eggs with it, then crunching the bacon in three big bites.
"That's how it goes," she murmured. "Try and avoid passing your baggage on to your kids, make it ten times worse." Her parents had tried, and tried hard to protect her and Mary from their lives, as best they could. But that had just made Ellen more curious, made her want to know more. And Bobby and Sam stood up to her puppy dog eyes a lot less than her mom and dad could.
